1. Why are there breaks in between the different moves and procedures? 2. Are there any contraindications? 3. Can I get a rebate from my health fund? 4. Can I use other therapies at the same time? 1. Why are there breaks in between the different moves and procedures The therapist will do a few ‘bowen moves’ and will leave the body to respond for a couple of minutes. If the therapist does too much at the same time, the Bowen will be like an ‘overdose’ and the brain will find it hard to process what it will need to do in order to do the healing itself. In most cases the therapist will leave the room in order not to interfere with the energetic process and to give the patient time to relax. 2. Are there any contraindications? There are certain procedures we do not use on certain patients with particular conditions or problems. It is therefore important that you will need to fill in a patient information form in order to give your therapist a good understanding of your needs. 3. Can I get a rebate from my health fund? Most health funds now include Bowen therapy as Bowen is now a recognised diploma course. However you must have the appropriate cover in order to claim. Check with your health fund if you are not sure. Health funds currently offering rebates for Bowen Therapy are: Australian Health Management, Australian Unity, CBHS, Credicare Healthfund, Grand United Health Fund, Grand Unity Corporate, HBA, Health Partners, IOR Australia, Medibank Private, MBF, NIB, NRMA, QLD Country Health, SGIC, Teachers Federation Health, (HCF to come soon) 4. Can I use other therapies at the same time? After a Bowen treatment, the Bowen will continue to work up to 5 days in your body. We recommend no other modalities (eg massage, acupuncture) for up to 1 week after a Bowen treatment as this may interfere and stop the treatment.
